‘Armistice Day’
As the bell tolled, the sound of joyous sobbing ignited across the world wide web.
In a small trench somewhere in the South Mozilla, the news finally reached the soldiers. As the excitable information left 4chan’s mouth, the others exploded in a humongous cheer.
“It’s over!” Tumblr cried out to the heavens, stretching its arms out wide and grinning stupidly - but it didn’t care who saw it. It was free. It was at that moment that something collided into it, causing it to stumble, but not fall. Looking down, it realised that YouTube was wrapped around its waist, bawling into its chest. Tumblr held YouTube close and kissed the top of its head, spilling wet tears into its hair.
“We’re free,” YouTube sobbed. “We’re really free.” Its voice was filled with disbelief. Tumblr laughed and span YouTube around in its arms.
“Look, YouTube! Look at what we’ve done! You and I, and all the other websites - we stood up and we fought for our liberty. And we won! No more fighting, YouTube. No more fighting. It’s over, it’s all over. Can you feel that, YouTube? That’s what pride feels like. Be proud, YouTube! Be proud ALL of you!”
The rest of Tumblr’s Company cheered in response and held newly filled glasses of rich, dark data high in the air.
“To the Internet!” Tumblr cried, tears rolling down its cheeks.
“TO THE INTERNET!” came the unanimous, emotional reply of the other websites.
Wikipedia lit a cigar it had been saving for this occasion. It grinned as it sucked in the smoke, and for the first time in a long time, its smile actually reached its eyes.
“This day’ll go down in history,” it mused. “And hell, am I proud to have been a part of that.”
“We all are,” Pirate Bay replied, but a solemn look crossed its face. “But I think we all need to take a moment here to pay our deepest respects to those we have lost. Megaupload. It fought its butt off till the very end. It never turned its back. Yes, the amount of stamina in its video providing wasn’t the best, what with the limitations of its seventy two minutes, but we cast that aside to see that it was one of the bravest websites I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. So, to Megaupload!”
“To Megaupload,” the group of websites agreed, and drank in silence. Eventually, the laughter began again and the celebrations continued into the night.
The Internet had won.
